Steve Moon, P.E.— President
As the founding principal, Steve has over 25 years of experience in engineering, management, consulting, and design in heavy industry. Prior to founding DES, he was the Manager of the Control Systems Department of the Birmingham office of Raytheon Engineers & Constructors. Overall, he was with Raytheon and the predecessor, Rust Engineering Company, for total of 17 years. Steve served in progressive positions of increasing responsibility as an Instrument Design Engineer, Senior Design Engineer and Engineering Manager Control Systems. He is a registered professional engineer in 26 states, a member of NSPE, TAPPI and ISA-The Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society (ISA). Steve is a graduate of The University of Alabama with a Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering and of UAB with a Masters in Business Administration. Before joining Rust, Steve was an Electrical Engineer with Alabama Power Company.
He has experience in pulp & paper, foods, metals, chemicals, fiber optics, refuse to energy and general manufacturing. His background includes work in electrical, instrumentation, control systems, construction and OSHA 1910.119.

Gerald Wilbanks, P.E.—Vice President

As the other principal, Gerald has over 38 years of experience in engineering, management, consulting, and design in heavy industry. Prior to joining DES, he was a Principal Engineer with the Consulting & Systems Integration operation of Raytheon Engineers & Constructors. Overall, he was with Raytheon and the predecessor, Rust Engineering Company, for a total of 32 years. Gerald served in progressive positions of increasing responsibility as an Instrument Design Engineer, Senior Design Engineer, Engineering Manager Control Systems, and Vice President Quality Improvement. He is a registered professional engineer in 14 states, a member of NSPE, ASQ, and an International Former President (1995) of ISA-The Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society (ISA). Gerald is a graduate of Mississippi State University with a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering. Prior to joining Rust, he was an Instrument Engineer for Union Carbide Chemicals in Port Lavaca, Texas.
Gerald was recognized as the Engineer of the Year in 1991 by the Engineering Council of Birmingham and was selected for the Distinguished Service Award in 1997 by the same organization of professional societies. He serves on the Advisory Board for the College of Engineering at Mississippi State University and is a Distinguished Engineering Fellow of the university. The Birmingham Section of ISA accorded him the Engineer of the Year award in 1996, as well as the Distinguished Society Service recognition in 1997 and Young Engineer of the Year award in 1978. As a Past President of the Birmingham Section, Gerald received the Ambassador to the World Award in 1995. In 2003, ISA-The Instrumentation, Systems and Automation Society selected Gerald for the membership grade of Fellow in the society.
His background experience industries include pulp and paper, chemicals, refuse to energy, power, foods, and general manufacturing. The work areas include instrumentation, controls, quality systems, management, electrical, and construction.

David Tennant has successfully managed over $3.5 Billion in projects, programs, and resources: and provides consulting services to a variety of industries. His expertise includes process improvement, planning, management and rescue of projects, management coaching and consulting, and helping companies improve the way they plan and execute business strategy.
David has developed and delivers training materials and courses dealing with project management principles. This includes coverage of principles in dealing with large projects and smaller activities with attention to the tools that are needed to ensure successful execution. The training classes are targeted toward both technical and non-technical participants.
He is a registered professional engineer in Georgia and a Certified Project Management Professional. David has a BSME from Florida Atlantic University, a Master of Science from Georgia Tech, and an Executive MBA from Kennesaw State University. He has published over a dozen papers on engineering and management topics.
